Feeling stuck, stressed or in pain with no clear reason? How BodyTalk therapy in Hove can help at The White Tara Clinic
When you have tried everything and something still feels off - Stress, Anxiety, Poor Sleep, Trauma, Overwhelm & much more
Some people come to us with a clear problem: a sore shoulder, a fear of flying, a stressful year at work. Others just know that something is not right. They sleep badly, feel tired for no reason, carry tension that never quite lets go, or find that old worries keep resurfacing.
If that sounds familiar, you are far from alone. Many people spend months or years moving between GP appointments, scans, supplements and self help books without feeling properly better. Often the missing piece is how the mind, emotions and body affect one another.
What is BodyTalk therapy?
BodyTalk is a gentle, hands on approach that looks at the whole person rather than one symptom at a time. It was developed in the 1990s by Dr John Veltheim. It works on the idea that the body's systems are constantly communicating with one another, and that when stress, trauma, illness or worry build up, that communication can become disrupted. The result can show up as physical symptoms, emotional struggles, or both.
A BodyTalk practitioner uses light tapping, breathing and biofeedback to identify where those disruptions are and to encourage the body to restore its own balance. It is non invasive, with no needles, and you stay fully clothed. It is sometimes described as acupuncture without needles.
BodyTalk also looks at the physical, emotional, mental and environmental sides of a person's health together, which can be especially helpful when physical symptoms and emotional stress seem to feed each other.
What can BodyTalk help with?
People often arrive at BodyTalk without knowing the name of it. They come because of something they are living with day to day. BodyTalk practitioners commonly work with:
Stress, anxiety and feeling constantly on edge
Low energy and fatigue
Sleep difficulties
Past trauma and post traumatic stress
Fears and phobias
Allergies and sensitivities
Joint, muscle and other chronic pain
Feeling emotionally stuck or overwhelmed
Symptoms that have no clear explanation
What to expect during a BodyTalk session
If you have never had a session, it helps to know that it is calm, unhurried and tailored to you.
Our sessions follow three stages: Ask, Balance and Communication.
Ask. Your session begins with a conversation about what has been going on, your health, and what you would like to change. Duncan may also "ask" questions of the body through gentle biofeedback, observing how your body responds. This helps identify what needs attention first.
Balance. Using techniques such as tapping, breathwork and touch, Duncan works to restore balance to the body and mind.
Communication. In the final stage, the aim is to reconnect the body's systems and repair the lines of communication that have been disrupted, so the body can heal more effectively.
You rest comfortably on a treatment table, fully clothed. Many people feel deeply relaxed. Some notice warmth, tingling, a release of emotion or a clearer head.
Some feel a little tired or emotional afterwards, which usually settles within a day or two. The number of sessions that suits you depends on what you are dealing with, and some people notice a change within a few sessions while others prefer ongoing support.
It is also worth knowing that research into BodyTalk specifically is still limited. Many people report benefits, but large scale trials and peer reviewed studies of BodyTalk itself are lacking. We would rather you came with realistic expectations than with promises.
Meet Duncan Bailey
Duncan Bailey is a BodyTalk practitioner and breathwork facilitator with a lifelong calling to help others heal.
For over two decades he has studied body psychology, the anatomy and physiology of the energetic body, meditation and belief systems. He has walked that path both personally and professionally, driven by a deep curiosity about the story and meaning behind illness.

That curiosity shapes the way he works. Duncan uses a combination of tools and approaches to help you understand the range of factors that may have contributed to an imbalance in your body and mind. This can include allergies, PTSD, stress, joint and muscle pain, and fears and phobias. His aim is to help you believe in yourself and find resilience and strength, whatever is happening in your life.
Duncan's qualifications include:
Certified BodyTalk Practitioner (CBP)
Certified Photobiomodulation (low level laser therapy) practitioner
Certified Biogeometry practitioner
As a qualified low level laser practitioner, Duncan also treats a range of musculoskeletal conditions and supports male fertility, so if your pain or tension has a physical side, he can look at that too.
Is BodyTalk right for you?
BodyTalk is non invasive, and at White Tara Clinic we offer it to people of all ages, including children and older people. It may suit you if you want to understand why you feel the way you do, if you want to be treated as a whole person, or if you feel that medication or talking alone has only taken you part of the way.
You do not need to understand BodyTalk before you come, or to believe in it.
Curiosity is plenty.
BodyTalk does not diagnose or replace medical care, and it is not a cure for any condition. It is intended to be used alongside conventional treatment, and it should not replace it for serious conditions, medical emergencies or mental health crises.
If you have an urgent or serious health concern, please speak to your doctor first.
